The education system in this country is a joke. A cruel joke. Starting in grade school the only thing you are really being taught is how to take orders and be an obedient worker. Sure, you learn the basics- I’m not saying you don’t learn anything in school. But the way in which you learn is the real focus of the system. You are on a strict, regimented schedule. Come every day no matter what or be punished. Memorize information and regurgitate it on tests. It doesn’t matter what your interests are, you will learn the same subject matter as everyone else. Don’t question the teacher. Eat when you are told. Ask permission to use the bathroom. FOR TWELVE YEARS. I’d say that’s sufficient time to mold young minds into a desired state.
AND THEN you’re told that if you want to be a higher paid slave, you need to go to college. Take out loans, pay an absurd amount of money, continue regurgitating bullshit information successfully and you are awarded with a piece of paper called a degree. Now you are fully prepared to work obediently your entire life digging yourself out of debt you incurred paying for the piece of paper that allowed you to become a better slave.
I’m very much in favor of education. But not like this. Really educate yourself. Ask questions, think critically, pursue your interests, talk to people, travel, read a fucking book.
When I went to visit Green Mountain College I sat in on a History of Education course Monday morning. This was one of the talking points that came up in the discussion.

Travel, probably one of the best ways to get educated in my opinion.
